Hotel advertisers and hotel proprietors of any prospective winning business that rents accommodation, chalets, B&B rooms, hotel rooms or any other type of rental property need to take care when it comes to advertising a hotel and “hotel publicity” on the web. When you are selling hotel rooms, you want the best possible marketing of your hotel.
Literally millions of web design companies in hotel advertising will promise you the earth in marketing your hotel and fair enough, might produce you a decent looking hotel website. But with the fierce competition for booking hotels and reserving hotel rooms: really, what use is a nice looking website buried in a maze of tens if not hundreds of rental properties within your city, town or village? A website where you have to physically pass people your web URL and people cannot easily find on the first page of Google; is completely useless. A completely useless supplier design and support cost. And a completely useless burden to your property rental business. Basically “completely useless” full stop.
You have a friend that is a web designer eh? Maybe he/she calls themself a “web developer”? We all know one, proclaiming to be the town or village “best thing since sliced bread” and shouting off their skills and portfolio of rather gullible business clients in the cafè, bar or pub. Maybe they dazzle you with TLA’s (three-letter abbreviations) and web terminologies such as SEO (search engine optimisation), SEM (search engine marketing) or ORM (online reputation management)? Or bore you to death with OTLA’s (only two-letter abbreviations) such as DA (domain authority) or PA (page authority)? And the gullible sheep progress slowly forward, thinking “this guy knows what he’s talking about” and they end up paying a fortune for a hotel website design that sits pages and pages into the dark and deepest depths Google. Then the sit there, watching the visitor statistics almost their knees, begging and praying “please God, somebody please visit our shiny new website”.
And then you have the second scenario. You bought a huge hotel full of empty rooms, they paid a fortune to refurbish them to gather dust that they pay a maid to clean daily, they pay the best chef to cook the best food for their empty restaurant and they’ve got Tom Cruise stood to do nothing behind the bar with a whole host of ingredients for the best cocktails on the planet. And why? As they listened to their long-time best mate who too “knows absolutely nothing about web marketing” and on his advice they decided to DIY it or get a web design student down the street “who knows nothing about nothing” (apart from the 15-year dated technologies his University professor used, yep, 15 years ago, when he last had a proper job) and off his own back, they used an off-the-shelf designed self-build website template used by millions of others in the same position of nothingness, either from WordPress.com or Wix.com. A website template that offers you zero% real functionality, where you’re not even in control of what you can actually web host and that too is buried 1000’s of pages deep in the Google results, deep within the oblivion of “nothingness”.
So they spend a fortune on Booking.com, Google AdWords and Facebook Ads – yet they’ve realised it costs a bomb on a daily basis and they’re still not filling their rooms to capacity.
And then….they wake up! They searched Google for something related to the “extreme sports holidays” industry yeah? They were that bored of sitting in their half-empty hotel. “I need some excitement in my life” we hear them scream. They frantically searched Google for “Extreme ski holidays“, “Extreme snowboard holidays” – they need a holiday! Whichever of these search terms they used, they found the same people at the top of Google, time and time again.
Then they scrolled up this page, noticed the two bold words in the first sentence and paragraph, then scrolled back down and thought:
I know, I’ll search Google for ‘hotel publicity‘
“That damned NeveFest website guy – he is always No1!” And they (and you) arrived on this page where the guy works, that really is “the best in the world at putting anything he really wants to at the top of Google”. After all, Extreme Sports is the most competitive of the most competitive sports industries in the world. And the hotel industry is no different. You too want your hotel to be No1 right?
